University of the Aegean
The University of the Aegean is a relatively new University albeit a dynamic one. Founded in 1984, it is one of the newest Universities in Greece. Today, 25 years later, the University has 17 departments and has become one of the largest Universities in the country.
The central administration of the University is located in Mytilene (the capital of the island of Lesvos), while various school and departments have been established in Chios, Samos, Rhodes, Syros and Mytilene. Because the University is set up on different islands, it constitutes a pioneer University-network covering all prefectures of the Aegean Sea. Both the natural beauty of the Aegean Sea and the innovative nature of the University become poles of attraction and bases of research and knowledge environments.
School of Humanities
The School of Humanities located in Rhodes, is composed of three departments: Department of Primary Education, Department of Sciences of Pre-school Education and of Educational Design, and the department of Mediterranean Studies. It organises a number of important scientific conferences in its locations (EDEN, 2003; Int. Conference of Psychological Society, 2004; Int. Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, 2006; SEAC, 2006, etc)
Learning Technology and Educational Engineering laboratory (LTEE lab), School of Humanities
The Learning Technology and Educational Engineering Laboratory [ LTEE ], located in Rhodes Island, was established in 2000. The LTEE laboratory supports academic research and teaching needs in the field of educational applications of Information and Communication Technologies as well as in Mathematics and Science Education. The aim of the LTEE laboratory is Learning Technology (design and exploitation of technology-based learning environments) and Educational Engineering (development and evaluation of educational activities and educational programs). Currently, it is composed of five academic members, two additional external lecturers, eight researchers, one administrative support members, PhD students, as well as a number of teachers-researchers connected to the lab.
Intelligent Cooperative Systems laboratory (InCoSyS), School of Sciences
The InCoSys laboratory, located in Samos Island, was created in 1998 to investigate, develop and tie in activities concerning systems with advanced cooperative abilities. Such systems aim to participate in joint activities with other systems and with people. The group aims to develop systems that amplify the human abilities to cope with sheer volumes of information, that help them learn, organize their knowledge, share it with others effectively and satisfy their information needs.
Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering
The Department of Product and Systems Design is the newest department (established in 2000), and it is located to Syros Island (Cyclades). Its scientific subject is the integrated design of Products and Systems, using creatively the knowledge and the ideas emerging from a wide variety of arts and sciences, emphasizing in the exploitation of new technologies. Its core objective is to produce graduates who will be able to use creatively new technologies, sciences and arts for the design of solutions that are usable and functional for various applications from varying areas covered by the Graphic and Applied Arts, Product Design and Industrial Design.
