- Full Paper, Poster, and Symposia submissions were due November 2, 2009; submissions for these categories are now closed. Pre-Conference Workshop submissions are due December 15, 2009. The Doctoral Consortium and Early Career Workshop submission deadline is February 15th, 2010.
- Full Paper, Poster, and Symposia submissions and revisions are made via the button above. See below for details on other submissions.
- For non-blind reviews, all participants (primary author/organizer, participants, chairperson and discussant) must be listed on the proposal.
- All Full Paper, Poster, and Symposia submissions must adhere to the formatting guidelines in the template.
- Full Paper, Poster, and Symposia proposers will be notified of acceptance decisions by January 30, 2010.
- Once a proposal has been accepted, each participant must submit a paid registration for the Conference. Presentations will not be scheduled in the program until we receive the lead author’s paid registrations.
- Final revisions of accepted papers will be due no later than March 1, 2010, in order to be included in the conference proceedings.
- The program will be available March 30, 2010.
- Conference registration without contribution will be possible.
Pre-conference Workshops · ↑
- Length: Please use the workshop submission proposal form.
- Review: Workshop proposals will be reviewed by the workshop chairs and conference co-chairs
- Presentation: Half-day or full-day workshops
- Format: Workshops provide an extended forum for small groups (15-30 people) to exchange ideas on a specific topic of common interest. Proposals should describe workshop goals and activities, intended audience, organizers, and syllabus. Pre-conference workshops require separate registration.
- Submission: Workshop proposals should be submitted by e-mail directly to the workshop chairs, Tom Moher (moher@uic.edu) and Eleni Kyza (Eleni.Kyza@cut.ac.cy). Please do not use the paper submissions site for workshop proposals.
Doctoral Consortium · ↑
- Length: A five page summary of your research; please see the Doctoral Consortium call for more detailed information on submission requirements.
- Review: Proposals will be reviewed by the Doctoral Consortium chairs in collaboration with a Review and Selection committee of senior researchers.
- Presentation: Full day June 28, Half day June 29, 2010
- Format: The doctoral consortium will provide an opportunity for up to 15 advanced graduate students to discuss their research in collaboration with senior mentors.
- Submission: Doctoral Consortium applications should be submitted by e-mail to icls2010dc@gmail.com.
Early Career Workshop · ↑
- Length: Please see the Early Career Workshop call for detailed information on submission requirements.
- Review: Proposals will be reviewed by the Early Career Workshop chairs in collaboration with a Review and Selection committee of senior researchers.
- Presentation: Full day June 28, Half day June 29, 2010
- Format: The early career workshop will provide an opportunity for up to 20 researchers in the early stages of their careers (in research positions and within five years of receiving their PhDs) to discuss their research and career plans in collaboration with peers and senior mentors.
- Submission: Early Career Workshop applications should be submitted by e-mail to workshop chairs Susan Yoon yoonsa@gse.upenn.edu and Paul Kirschner Paul.Kirschner@ou.nl. Please direct all inquiries to icls2008-earlycareer@isls.org.

Papers · ↑
- Length: No longer than 8 pages.
- Content: A clear description should be provided of: (a) the major issue(s) addressed, (b) potential significance of the work, (c) the theoretical and methodological approach(es) pursued, and (d) major findings, conclusions, and implications. Relevant references should be included.
- Review: Blind review
- Presentation: 30-minute time slots (20 for presentation and 10 for discussion) within a 90-minute session.
- Format: The program committee will appoint a chair for these sessions prior to the conference, and this person will have the responsibility of coordinating the presenters and leading discussion as well as ensuring that the session keeps within the time slot. The program committee will also appoint a discussant. Presenters are encouraged to allow time for rigorous discussion and debate as they prepare their presentations.
Symposia (Papers or Posters) · ↑
- Length: No longer than 8 pages.
- Content: A clear description should be provided of: (a) the overall focus of the symposium, (b) major issues addressed by the collective work, (c) potential significance of the contributions, and (d) how the collective presentations fit together. Separate brief descriptions of the content of each presentation should be included in the 8 page total.
- Review: Not blind review (presenters should be named)
- Presentation: 90 minutes for the full symposium.
- Format: May include 3 to 4 paper presentations with a discussant, or 6 to 8 posters with a discussant; alternately, demonstrations and other creative formats are encouraged, as appropriate to represent the research. Symposium proposals must nominate a discussant and chairperson. The symposium organizer must ensure prior agreement for participation by all parties.
Posters · ↑
- Length: No longer than 2 pages.
- Content: A clear description should be provided of the poster’s proposed content, including; (a) the major issue(s) addressed, (b) potential significance of the work, (c) the theoretical and methodological approach(es) pursued, and (d) preliminary findings, conclusions, and implications, which will be expanded on in the final poster presented at the conference.
- Review: Blind review
- Presentation: Informal discussion at poster, in sessions of 90 minutes, with the last 30 minutes reserved for group discussion with audience participation
- Format: Posters will be grouped thematically in sessions of 10 posters. The program committee will appoint a chair for these sessions prior to the conference, and this person will have the responsibility of coordinating the presenters and ensuring that the session keeps within the time slot. The poster board will be 3 feet tall by 5 feet wide. Materials will be available onsite for mounting posters.
