Crowd-Sourced Learning and Assessment in MOOCs

This full-day Tutorial will be held on Sunday 7th of June before the start of the Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) Conference 2015. The Tutorial site is here https://sites.google.com/site/csclmooc2015/

Join Sandra Milligan from the University of Melbourne and Ulla Ringtved from the University of Aalborg for a full-day Tutorial with hands-on exploration of learning in MOOCs, 21St century skills and Learning Analytics. Massive, Open Online Courses represent a valuable new laboratory for the exploration of collaborative learning. They demand that learners are self-regulating and able to operate without personal guidance or direct contact from an authoritative teacher. They make extensive use of crowd-sourced collaboration between participants especially through forums and in peer assessment. In this tutorial participants will work individually/collaboratively with peers to understand, explore and make explicit skills, that learners require to operate in collaboration with others in crowd-sourcing their learning.

In this tutorial participants will
The tutorial is framed around research from the University of Melbourne (UM) MOOC program and on research at the University of Aalborg (AAU) on analysing feedback and assessment. The UM MOOC program has to date run 14 MOOCs on the Coursera Platform, conducted under the auspices of the University of Melbourne Science of Learning Research Centre and the Assessment Research Centre. Topics include how learners crowd-source learning in MOOCs, how learning can be attested to reliability, how learners can be better supported, particularly in areas related to higher order learning for professional practice, and how assessment frameworks, including quizzes, tests, free text assignments, peer assessment and peer evaluations, support collaboration among peers.
